Founder's Day 2024 Family Gathering

Fellow Grads and Parents/Families of Cadets,

Please hold the date for this year’s Founder’s Day Event. In past years, prior to COVID, we’d held suit and tie evening events, but this year we are going late afternoon, kid friendly and overall just more chill. So no speaker, just fun and camaraderie.

Where: Hard Times Cafe (6362 Springfield Plaza,
Springfield, VA 22150
)

When: 13 April, 3-7PM
Who: USAFA Graduates, guests, and families of current cadets
Details: We have the Party Space in the back (upstairs). Entry via front & walk through public space or via outside stairs in the back. Free parking in front & back. Full bar downstairs along with pool tables & gaming area open only to adults. It’s a very casual space.
Cost: We are still negotiating the price for a buffet of food, non-alcoholic drinks and gratuity, but our goal is $25 for adults & half that for children 12 and under. We will collect cash or check on site.
RSVP: Not required, but we are asking for a FaceBook head count to help the kitchen plan.

Service Academy Challenge - Women's NCAA College Tennis

Hello Chris,

Hope you and your family are doing well.  We are again sponsoring the 2023 Service Academy Challenge here at the Army Navy Country Club, Friday through Sunday, October 27-29.  The women's teams from Army West Point, Air Force Academy and Naval Academy will compete

against each other in the same location for the first time.  Georgetown University will round out the four team tournament format.  The excitement of top collegiate tennis between these rivals will surely be memorable.

If possible, will you please forward this information to your area Air Force Academy grads for their calendars.  Last year we had quite a few AFA boosters turn out to see their Falcons in action.

The schedule for the three day event is attached below for ease of sending out to your association list.

Thank you again for your assistance in getting the word out.  Please give me a call if you have any questions regarding the event at (703) 856-2806.

No AFASW Annual Memorial Event for 2023

For a decade, AFASW has hosted an Annual Memorial Ceremony at the Air Force Memorial, next to the Pentagon around Memorial Day or Graduation Day to honor those from the Long Blue Line whom we have lost over the previous year, as well as members of the graduating class. Since the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Association of Graduates has assisted AFASW in preparing a virtual ceremony as well. Unfortunately, due to conflicting schedules and a lack of sufficient volunteer availability, AFASW is unable to host this annual event. We apologize and look forward to recruiting more volunteers who can help AFASW continue this tradition in 2024. If you wish for AFASW to continue its mission of fostering the professional success of fellow Graduates and hosting community-building events like the Annual Memorial Ceremony, please contact the Board to volunteer.

What Does the Department of the Air Force Need for Modern-Day Warfare?

New technologies and widespread digitization are changing the paradigm of time and knowledge in modern-day warfare. As a result, the Department of the Air Force (DAF) faces various operational and organizational challenges in addition to technical hurdles in pursuit of Air and Space supremacy.

Please join the National Academies for a webinar, What Does the Department of the Air Force Need for Modern-Day Warfare?, on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, from 2-4 pm ET to explore ways Airmen and Guardians can "turn up the rheostat on 'level of effort'" to situate and keep the DAF ahead of adversaries in a future when knowledge and time are decisive for success.

This event continues the discussion from two previous workshop series organized by the National Academies' Air Force Studies Board. These workshops brought together experts from the Air Force & Space Force, Industry, and other government agencies to explore how to optimize operational timing in changing environments and leverage new technologies with wide-scale digitization. Read the workshop series proceedings and learn more about the themes discussed below:

· Adapting to Shorter Time Cycles in the United States Air Force: Proceedings of a Workshop Series (2021)

· Digital Strategy for the Department of the Air Force: Proceedings of a Workshop Series (2022)

This symposium is organized by the National Academies' Air Force Studies Board (AFSB). Learn more about the board and sign up for updates on our website.

WEBCAST PARTICIPANT INSTRUCTIONS

You can watch the webinar livestream here. Q&A will be handled live using Slido. Please provide your name and questions here.

Please check the Attendee's Page and click "Join Now" to access the ZOOM webinar.

2020 AFASW Memorial Ceremony

3:00 PM15:00

2020 AFASW Memorial Ceremony

Every year the Air Force Academy Society of Washington DC  (AFASW) remembers and honors all members of the ‘Long Blue Line’ who passed away in the preceding year. The ceremony is usually held at the Air Force Memorial on graduation day in May and includes a “Roll-call” for each member with prayer, wreath laying, music and a speaker.  Unfortunately, our 2019 event was cancelled due to weather.

This year,  AFASW invites all USAFA graduates, family and friends to a Memorial Ceremony honoring all cadets and graduates who have passed since graduation day 2018. The virtual event will be a pre-recorded, but interactive multi-media presentation. Due to COVID-19 concerns and the subsequent early graduation of the 2020 class, we have chosen Memorial Day, May 25th,  2020 for this year’s event.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvO8AwxiuOY&feature=youtu.be

This link will be effective 5/23 - 5/26/2020.

AFASW would like to thank the Association of Graduates for their technical support with this, our first ever, virtual presentation.
